Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor) Seed
We have rattled on about Yellow rattle, Rhinanthus minor, elsewhere. At length. The "meadowmaker" is an important tool in your amoury if you want to establish a meadow on anything but the most impoverished soil.
Our Seed
There are at least 6 subspecies of Rhinanthus minor in the UK. I would think there are many more, to be honest; Rattle varies enormously in its appearance and there are even significant variations in time of flowering. We're currently sourcing our seed from several different harvesters, in Northumberland, the south of England, Midlands, and this seed from Brycheiniog, near Sennybridge in the Brecon Beacons. It's harvested by the fifth generation of a family farming in the Bannau. This seed is from the 2025 harvest and commands a premium because of its rarity.
We have our Yellow Rattle seed independently tested. The result typically indicate viability over 90%.

When I initially wanted to order these seeds they were not available but I received an email as soon as they were harvested and available. Shortly after they were delivered I was informed that the tests that are undertaken showed the quality of the seeds to be less than what is expected so other seeds with results that show an increased chance of germination were offered and delivered to me within a few days.
I was extremely pleased with the quality assurance process, honesty, and prompt responses from the customer service team...well done!
