Why Us?
We've been making wildflower meadows since 2003 and offering advice and selling seed from our Somerset base since 2008. Our thousands of happy customers include Natural England, the National Trust, and many Wildlife Trusts.
British Wildflower Seeds is licenced by DEFRA and part of Habitat Aid, a B Corporation.
Our wildflower seed mixes comprise of species occurring here naturally, harvested from wild plant populations. All the wildflower seed we sell has UK origin and provenance.
Harvested Meadow Mixes
Our community of suppliers includes most of the best wildflower seed producers in the UK, some of them teeny tiny. Many harvest seed in a completely sustainable way from beautiful and often ancient British donor meadow sites.
These harvested mixes have very high floral content, and a high diversity of perennial native wildflower and meadow grass species. They offer exceptional value for money. These meadow seed mixes are ideal for Biodiversity Net Gain projects; ask us!
Constructed Seed Mixes
We do also sell some seed mixes which are made up of pre-determined %s of species, for different soil types or situations. These typically include 30% wildflowers. Increasingly, the standard 20:80 - or 10:90 wildflowers to grasses mixes you can find elsewhere don't cut it. Nitrogen deposition and warmer winters mean they're a false economy on anything but the most skeletal soils.
The wildflower seed in these mixes is originally from wild populations here and the grass seeds are certified cultivars.
