If you buy a packet of wildflower seeds the chances are they will not be British.
There's a good chance the species in the packet don’t naturally occur in Britain either. Does this matter? We think it does.
Our wildflower and grass seed mixes will provide food and homes for insects and bees, birds and mammals. These benefits to biodiversity are particularly apparent when you use local seed; species which grow locally are more likely to succeed too.
We love the aesthetic appeal of traditional wildflower meadows too, which are not only one of our most beautiful and biodiverse habitats but one of our most threatened. Amazingly, they are poorly protected and we are still losing them.
British Wildflower Seeds is operated by Habitat Aid Ltd. It sells seed mixes taken from donor meadow sites around Britain by a community of small scale growers and harvesters. The seed mixes include a high diversity of wildflower and grass species and offer exceptional value for money.
We also sell some mixes which are made up of pre-determined percentages of species, appropriate for different soil types. All the species in these are native to the UK and the seed is originally from wild populations here.
If your meadow project is larger than 250 square metres you will need to head over to Habitat Aid’s own website to buy larger quantities than are available here.
