Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor) Seed
We have rattled on about Yellow rattle, Rhinanthus minor, elsewhere. At length. The "meadowmaker" is an important tool in your amoury if you want to establish a meadow on anything but the most impoverished soil.
Our Seed
There are at least 6 subspecies of Rhinanthus minor in the UK. I would think there are many more, to be honest; Rattle varies enormously in its appearance and there are even significant variations in time of flowering. We're currently sourcing our seed from several different harvesters, in Northumberland, the south of England, Midlands, and this seed from meadows in Pembrokeshire. This seed is from the 2024 harvest.
We have our Yellow Rattle seed independently tested, and Rattle from this harvester showed 90% successful germination in 2022, when we last had seed from them.
We only have very limited quantities of Welsh Rhinanthus minor this year, I'm afraid. Yellow rattle seed is available in much larger quantities at our Habitat Aid website, although - sorry - it's English.
