Calcareous Soils

Calcareous soils - typically on chalk or limestone - can host the most spectacular wildflower meadows. Salisbury Plain, for example, has some of the most spectacular we have in the country. Some of our best loved wildflowers prefer these soils - Wild marjoram, Field scabious, Kidney vetch, Wild carrot, for example. These meadows are categorised as CG2 or CG3.
